Piano Lessons

LEARN TO IMPRESS

The goal of piano lessons is inevitably to play music for other people. It is a musician's way of giving back to the world what the world has given them, the gift of music. This is the driving approach of how I structure lessons. Students will focus on the basics of learning music while striving for technique and musicality. I aim to take much of the fear out of performing by giving them performance strategies and preparation. That isn't to say they won't learn vital life lessons along the way.

Learn failure. Learn perseverance. Learn success.

LEARN TO CREATE

These days many piano students are learning composition right in their lessons. Stay ahead of the game by learning notation on paper and professional software like Sibelius and Pro Tools. Composition can be taught as a separate lesson or in conjunction with piano lessons.

Also, learn the basics of

designing simple soundtracks.

LEARN THE FOUNDATION

As a composer myself, I take great pride in teaching music theory and history not only in a way that they can understand it, but also use it. This is not another dry class to eventually be forgotten. Theory skills are critical for making up your own music and learning songs by ear. Also, theory and history help with performance memory and artistry.

LEARN TO LOVE LESSONS

Day after day I see students switching teachers and quitting lessons because they aren't making progress or enjoy doing other activities more. Part of loving what you do is finding the balance between self-discipline for progress and what you find to be fun. Luckily music has an endless spectrum of things people can have fun with, and techniques to make progress. There is something for everybody in music, you just need to discover it.
